Overview
This 24-month M.Phil Molecular Biology programme is designed to build on undergraduate training by developing advanced knowledge, practical skills, and research competencies in molecular biology. It seeks to enhance students’ professional and scientific capabilities, promote research addressing issues of national relevance, and prepare graduates for doctoral studies and careers in the life sciences. Graduates will develop a sound understanding of the molecular basis of cellular processes in microbial, animal, and plant systems and their applications in related disciplines. The programme seeks to train competent cell and molecular biologists for careers in research institutions, industries, quality assurance and clinical laboratories, academia, and government agencies. It aims to develop students’ ability to formulate scientific hypotheses and design, adapt, and conduct molecular and cell-based experiments to test these hypotheses and address research problems of national relevance. The programme also promotes the application of molecular and cellular biology through community engagement and extension services in health, agriculture, industry, and the environment.
