UNIVERSITY OF GHANA TO HOST INAUGURAL GHANA HIGHER EDUCATION SUMMIT
The University of Ghana will host the inaugural Ghana Higher Education Summit on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Cedi Conference Centre. The Summit will bring together university leaders, policymakers, industry representatives, development partners, alumni, and other stakeholders to deliberate on the future of higher education financing in Ghana.
Organised under the theme, “Universities at Crossroads: Charting Sustainable Funding Pathways for Inclusive Higher Education,” the Summit seeks to provide a national platform for exploring innovative, sustainable, and inclusive funding pathways that will strengthen teaching, research, and institutional resilience within Ghana's universities.
The programme will be chaired by Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, with H.E. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, serving as Special Guest of Honour. The Summit's keynote address will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Ernest Aryeetey, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana.
A distinguished panel of experts comprising Prof. Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City University; Emerita Professor Akosua Adomako Ampofo; Prof. John Gyapong, Secretary-General of ARUA; and Prof. Kwame Akyeampong, Professor of International Education and Development, will lead discussions on sustainable financing models, strategic partnerships, philanthropy, research funding, and other key issues shaping the future of higher education.
The Summit is expected to stimulate new thinking, promote collaboration, and generate practical strategies that will strengthen the resilience, competitiveness, and long-term sustainability of Ghana's higher education sector.
The University community and key stakeholders are encouraged to participate in this landmark conversation on the future of higher education in Ghana.
