A Group Picture of the Vice Chancellor with Participants
A two-day orientation workshop has been organised by the Human Resource and Organizational Development Directorate (HRODD) and Academic Quality Assurance Unit (AQAU) for newly appointed Heads of Departments/Centres, Deans of Schools and Directors of Institutes. The purpose of the workshop was to equip the new appointees with skills that would enable them effectively manage their leadership roles and to appreciate the opportunities and challenges that go with their positions.
Topics covered included Appointments and the University of Ghana Promotion Policy, Academic Leadership, Responsibilities and Challenges of Heads of Departments (HoDs), Role of HoDs in Quality Assurance Processes at UG, Law and Administration, Building Effective Teams: Roles of Leaders and Financial Role of Heads of Departments among others.
Resource persons included Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Pro-Vice Chancellor (ASA); Prof. Dan Ofori, Provost, College of Humanities; Mrs. Christy Badu, Acting Director, Academic Affairs; Prof. Justice Bawole, Dean, University of Ghana Business School; Prof. Samuel Agyei-Mensah, Director, Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation; Prof. Samuel Kwasi Dartey-Baah, Associate Professor, UGBS; Dr. Kweku Ainuson, Lecturer, UG School of Law, and Mr. Vincent Acheampong, Systems Analyst, UGCS.

Welcoming the new appointees to the workshop, the Director of HRODD, Mr. Daniel O. Baidoo congratulated the them on their appointment. He expressed the hope that their commitment and dedication to duty would help project the image of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, who graced the occasion on the second day, highlighted some key roles of leaders in the University. Among the issues he raised were the code of dressing, speech and attitude towards colleagues and students. He noted that as leaders, they were supposed to act in accordance with the rules and regulations of the University. Prof. Oduro Owusu cautioned that since university leadership positions are not permanent, leaders must strive and endeavour to leave behind good legacies.
