In line with the University of Ghana’s efforts to achieve global impact by leveraging strategic partnerships, a delegation led by Professor Felix Ankomah Asante, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development (RID), is undertaking an official visit to Tokyo, Japan.
The visit aims to explore opportunities for collaboration in research, innovation, start-ups and student and staff exchanges, as well as to promote the Ghana to the World Summer School programme. This initiative aligns with the University’s Strategic Plan (2024 – 2029), particularly Strategic Priorities 1, 2, 3, and 4, which focus on Transformative Student Experience, Impactful Research, Commitment to Faculty and Staff and Engagement and Partnerships.
The delegation has so far held fruitful engagements with several leading Japanese institutions, including the Institute of Science in Tokyo, Tokyo Metropolitan University, the University of Tokyo, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and Hitotsubashi University.

Discussions at these institutions were highly productive, with both sides expressing commitment to formalise partnerships through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). Additionally, the institutions agreed to compile a list of researchers interested in collaborative projects between Ghanaian and Japanese universities to facilitate joint research and innovation initiatives.
Her Excellency Genevieve Edna Apaloo, Ghana’s Ambassador to Japan, joined the delegation during visits to several institutions. She was accompanied by Mr. Christopher E.K. Gaba, Minister-Counsellor for Diaspora, Education and Culture, who represented the Embassy at various engagements.
