James Madison University Delegation Visits UG Vice-Chancellor to Deepen Longstanding Partnership

In a bid to sustain and expand over two decades of academic collaboration, a delegation from James Madison University (JMU) has paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo.
The delegation, led by Prof. David Owusu-Ansah, engaged University Management on strategies to broaden the scope of the JMU Summer Abroad Programme, which has been running through the Language Centre at UG since 1997. The discussions centred on building on the achievements of the existing partnership and exploring new avenues for collaboration aligned with mutual academic interests.

Prof. Owusu-Ansah highlighted the significance of the partnership, noting its impact on students from both institutions and its role in deepening cross-cultural academic exchange. He also reaffirmed JMU’s commitment to supporting and investing in the programme and other joint initiatives.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo expressed appreciation for JMU’s sustained engagement with the University of Ghana and its contribution to enriching the student experience. She welcomed the renewed commitment to collaboration and emphasised the importance of aligning programmes with UG’s broader strategic objectives, particularly around internationalisation, student mobility and academic excellence.

The visit follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2023, which now serves as a framework to reinforce and expand activities under the partnership.
The JMU delegation included alumni who serve as sponsors of the summer abroad programme, as well as faculty members with long-standing connections to the University of Ghana.
This engagement forms part of the University’s broader goal to strengthen international partnerships that enhance teaching, learning and research across disciplines.
