The Department of Music recently hosted a captivating debut performance by the first-year students of the Pop Ensemble. Taking place during the weekly Unplugged Session on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, the event, titled "Into the Future," unveiled a new wave of talent within the department. It showcased the diverse skills of the ensemble members, ranging from soulful singers to proficient instrumentalists. Each performer demonstrated a high level of preparedness and enthusiasm, leaving the audience, comprised mainly of freshmen and continuing students, thoroughly impressed.

Attendees praised the professionalism and stage presence of the first-year ensemble. One observer noted the evident talent among the newcomers, while another highlighted the meticulous preparation evident in their performance. Despite the acclaim, a final-year student expressed concerns about the students readiness to tackle the repertoire awaiting them in the upcoming semester.

The success of the performance can be attributed to the leadership of Mr. Michael Ohene Okantah Jnr and Mr. Kofi Kudonu Labayili, supported by Graduate Assistant Samuel Fiifi Agyare and National Service Persons Samuel Amarkai Amartey, Anthony Agboletey, and Evans Budgede. Dr. Eric Sunu Doe serves as the director, providing invaluable mentorship and direction to the ensemble.

The Unplugged Session Series concluded with this remarkable performance, marking the end of the first semester's musical showcases. However, anticipation remains high for the return of the series in May, coinciding with the commencement of the next semester. Additionally, plans are underway for the first-year end-of-semester event, with dates and venue details soon to be confirmed.

In summary, the debut performance of the first-year Pop Ensemble not only showcased the burgeoning talent within the department but also signaled a promising future for these young musicians. With dedicated leadership and support, coupled with their evident passion and preparation, the ensemble is poised to make significant contributions to the musical landscape of the department and beyond.
