CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

OVERCOMING LINGUISTIC BARRIERS, ADVANCING GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP, AND EMBRACING HUMANISM THROUGH FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION

The Department of Modern Languages, University of Ghana, invites submissions of abstracts for a Special Issue in the Legon Journal of the Humanities to commemorate its 60th anniversary. We welcome contributions from scholars, researchers, graduate students, and professionals who are/have been affiliated with the Department of Modern Languages over the last six decades. The theme for this Special Issue is “Overcoming Linguistic Barriers, Advancing Global Citizenship, and Embracing Humanism Through Foreign Language Education".

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Innovative approaches to foreign language teaching and learning
  • Intercultural communication and competence
  • Multilingualism and multiculturalism in language education
  • Assessment and evaluation in language learning
  • Language and identity
  • Language and literature
  • Language learning for specific purposes
  • New trends, challenges, and controversies in language education
  • 21st-century skills and competencies through language learning
  • Virtual multilingual platforms and global interactions
  • Promoting cultural diplomacy and global citizenship through language immersion programs
  • Translation and translation ethics in a globalized world
  • Language policy and planning for global citizenship
  • Critical thinking skills and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in language education for peacebuilding and conflict resolutions
  • Promoting empathy through Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in language education for global citizenship
  • Curriculum design in language education for global competency and social change
  • Integrating global issues and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into language curriculums

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

  • Abstracts should be written in English and must not exceed 200 words.
  • Abstracts should be accompanied by 4-5 keywords.
  • Authors are allowed only one single or co-authored submission.
  • Abstracts must be submitted electronically via DML60@ug.edu.gh
  • Along with the abstract, submit a brief biography (100-150 words) for each author, highlighting their research interests, academic background and how they are/have been affiliated with the Department of Modern Languages.

Important Timelines:

  • Abstract submission deadline: March 20, 2024
  • Notification of acceptance of abstracts: March 27, 2024
  • Deadline for submission of manuscripts: June 1, 2024
  • Notification on reviewers’ decisions (1st round of revision): July 20, 2024
  • Submission of revised manuscripts: August 31, 2024
  • Notification on final decision (2nd round of revision): September 30, 2024
  • Submission of final revised manuscripts: October 31, 2024
