The Transbureau

History and Services

The TransBureau is a combination of two words: Translation and Bureau. As the name suggests, this office is a unit of the Departments of French and Modern Languages. It is responsible for the translation of various documents and delivery of interpretation, tour guiding and liaison services for individuals, departments and institutions within and outside the University of Ghana.

The objective of the TransBureau is threefold. First, to provide service to the community at a very affordable token fee. Second, the bureau serves as the primary platform for exposing our M.A Translation students to the types of documents and various ethical issues that they are likely to meet and handle in the field after their studies. Finally, it seeks to generate funds for the two Departments and other units of the University, including the University as a whole. 

Management

The TransBureau has been in existence for almost twenty years now and is highly recommended by various bodies. The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), for instance believes it is one of the most trusted and reliable translation service providers in Ghana.  

The administrative component of the TransBureau is headed by a Manager who is assisted by an Assistant Manager. Generally, these two are representatives of the Departments of French and Modern Languages. The translators are experts from the two Departments, full of experience, who act in compliance with the Code of Ethics governing translation, the statutes of the University of Ghana and the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

Pricing

Translation and interpretation fees vary, depending on the language and the nature of the document. The timeline for translation also varies, depending on the number of pages and the level of difficulty. However, 'express' documents are translated in 24 hours at a higher fee, while regular translation work is done within 3 working days.

The TransBureau is located in the Reginald Amonoo Building behind Legon Hall on the University of Ghana Campus. The Bureau works from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (GMT) from Monday to Friday.
