Head of Department's Welcome Note
Welcome to the official website of the Department of French of the School of Languages under the College of Humanities of the University of Ghana, Legon.
The Department seeks to grow the proficiency levels of students who study French as an international language to global professional standards at the undergraduate, graduate and post graduate levels.
As a dynamic modern languages department, we have recently added on Translation and Conference Interpreting. This is because the need for these skills has increased in the language proficiency enterprise and career market.
The Department offers an undergraduate programme leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree in French. We also offer various graduate programmes involving coursework and research in French with options in Literature, Linguistics and Didactics.
Students may apply for the following Master's programmes: M.A Translation, M.A Conference Interpreting or a Master of Philosophy in French. There is also the option of a doctoral degree Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in French (Literature, Linguistics, Didactics, and Translation Studies).
We also run French Language Proficiency courses for the general public at all levels, especially those who want to be fluent in French as a second language. Our well-designed modules are for all those who are ready to take on the challenge of growing bilingual skills in a fun environment of like-minded people. We issue a Certificate of Participation at the end of each French Language Proficiency course.
As part of the various extracurricular acvitities promoted by our Department, we have a Translation Bureau (THE TRANSBUREAU) that provides translation and interpretation services to invididuals, departments and institutions.
