New semester series 2 | The Chinese and Ghanaian directors of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana visited the Kwabenya Cluster of schools

On October 7, the Chinese and Ghanaian directors of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana and teachers' representatives visited Kwabenya Cluster of schools, a teaching site in Accra East Municipal District, to investigate the Chinese teaching situation and have a discussion with officials of the district Education Bureau, the school principal and the head of Chinese teaching.

In Kwabenya School, Professor Chu Beijuan, the Chinese director, presented Chinese books to the library, including the latest edition of popular Chinese classics, Chinese textbooks, new word cards, teaching wall charts, video materials, handicraft materials and other Chinese learning materials. Upon hearing the news, the students surrounded the Confucius Institute teachers and rushed to say hello in Chinese to express their joy.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana has been committed to promoting the development of Chinese education in Ghana, and has been linked to the Kwabenya Teaching site for seven years. Before the pandemic, more than 700 students were learning Chinese in the teaching centers, and Chinese teaching was widely welcomed and remarkable achievements were made. As the epidemic situation eases, offline teaching will resume in the new semester.

Mr. Seth, coordinator of Education Bureau of Accra East Municipal District, thanked the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana for its continuous care and support to the teaching site. He said that the ambassadorial scholarship recently awarded is a great encouragement to outstanding students and encourages more students to persevere and learn Chinese well. Ivarin, head of Chinese language at the teaching site, put forward suggestions on how to improve the teaching form and fully restore offline teaching.

Kwabenya School is a public school affiliated to the Education Bureau of the Eastern Municipal District. It is also one of the teaching sites that has been cooperating with Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana for a long time. This visit to  Kwabenya School deepened the connection between Confucius Institute and teaching sites, and also put forward guidance and suggestions for Chinese teaching at teaching sites. The Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana will continue to explore new ideas, open up new paths, strengthen cooperation and exchanges with teaching sites, and jointly promote the development of Chinese education in Ghana.
