International conference series 4|Confucius institute booster spread Chinese literature overseas
On September 22, the first China-Ghana International Conference on Chinese Language Education, jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana and the School of Humanities of Zhejiang University of Technology, was successfully held. The main venues are set up in Accra, the capital of Ghana, and Hangzhou, China. Students and teachers from universities, Confucius Institutes, experts and scholars, business representatives and media from China, Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, South Africa and other countries attended the online and offline conference. Experts and scholars conducted in-depth discussions on issues related to "international Chinese education". Professor Yao Jianbin from the School of Literature, Beijing Normal University was invited to deliver a keynote speech entitled "Some Thoughts on the Confucius Institute promoting the overseas Dissemination of Chinese Literature".
The overseas communication of Chinese literature refers to the process of literary communication in which Chinese literature is translated and accepted overseas, as well as its acceptance and influence outside the region, after traveling across languages, nationalities, cultures and countries (including regions). Professor Yao Jianbin believes that the overseas dissemination of Chinese literature can not only enrich the development means and connotation of Confucius Institutes, but also improve the ability and level of sustainable development of Confucius Institutes.
Professor Yao Jianbin introduced some specific practices of Confucius Institutes in promoting the overseas dissemination of Chinese literature. For example, the "Overseas Communication Project of Chinese Literature" carried out by Beijing Normal University, and the Confucius Institute has promoted the overseas communication of Chinese literature in countries such as Africa, Latin America and Europe. With the implementation of these programs, the image of Confucius Institutes as an important platform and channel for international Chinese education and overseas promotion of Chinese culture has become increasingly clear and stable.
He proposed that Confucius Institutes should adhere to the following principles in promoting the overseas communication of Chinese literature: the principle of adapting to local conditions, the principle of gradual progress, the principle of two-way communication, the principle of international Chinese education, the principle of literature communication as a supplement, and the principle of sustainable development. Adhering to these principles is conducive to solving some problems encountered by Confucius Institutes in promoting the overseas dissemination of Chinese literature.
Professor Yao Jianbin expressed his best wishes for the Confucius Institute to promote the overseas dissemination of Chinese literature. He hoped that the Confucius Institute colleagues from both Chinese and foreign countries could join hands and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Yao Jianbin, Ph.D., Professor and doctoral supervisor of School of Literature, Beijing Normal University. Director of the Department of Chinese Literature, College of Arts and Sciences, Beijing Normal University, and Director of the Research Center for Overseas Communication of Chinese Literature, Beijing Normal University. His research interests include Chinese and Western comparative literature, European and American literature, Utopian literature and Utopian thought history, Western Marxism, etc. He participated in the National Social Science Foundation's major bidding project "Research on Overseas Communication of Chinese Contemporary Literature", independently presided over the Ministry of Education's humanities and social science project "Research on the Narrative Model of British Utopian Novels", and the China Scholarship Council's project "Research on British Utopian Novels since the 16th Century".
