UPDATE: NOTICE TO THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY ON COVID-19 AND SEASONAL INFLUENZA PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Management of the University of Ghana has noted with concern the rise of COVID-19 and seasonal influenza infections particularly within the Greater Accra Region.

As the University reopens for the start of the Second Semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Year, members of the University Community are reminded to strictly observe the protocols in place as follows:

a. Strict enforcement of the “No Mask, No Entry” rule in all University buildings, including lecture halls, halls of residence and offices.

b. Strict enforcement of hand hygiene, i.e. washing of hands under running water and/or the use of hand sanitizers before entry into all University buildings; this directive applies to visitors/clients as well as staff and students of the University. Heads of Unit should ensure adequate supply and use of sanitary items.

c. All employees, students, visitors and those doing business on the University’s campuses are required to wear face masks in offices, lecture/examination halls and in public spaces. Heads of Units are to ensure compliance.

d. All preventive and precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all members of the community, as earlier announced, must be adhered to and all protocols followed.

e. Members of the University community are to adhere to infection prevention measures and to ensure social distancing, maintaining a reasonable distance from others at all times.

 

Vaccination Centre

All members of the University community are urged to take the COVID-19 Vaccine.

There is a COVID-19 Vaccination Centre at the University of Ghana Hospital, that is located under the pavilion in front of the Hospital Administration building and is

open from Monday to Friday (except public holidays), from 8.30 a. m. to 2.00 p.m. daily.

All eligible persons should come along to the Vaccination Centre with a valid national ID card and a COVID-19 Vaccination Card (for those requiring a second dose or booster shot).

· Any employee or student who develops a fever, cough, cold or sore throat should isolate himself or herself till it clears.

· Members of the community should contact the University of Ghana Hospital for advice if they develop a fever (temperature above 37.4°C), or a cough/cold that persists for several days or gets worse.
