About
Dr Joyce Anku is currently a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Teacher Education, School of Education and Leadership, University of Ghana. Prior to joining the University of Ghana as a full-time faculty, she served as lecturer and subsequently as Director of Research at the Centre for Academic Research and Engaged Scholarship (CARES), Valley View University, Oyibi-Accra, for ten (10) consecutive years. She also served as adjunct lecturer at both the Wisconsin International University College and the Language Centre, University of Ghana.
Dr Anku has equally served in various capacities at the national level. She was a member of a team of experts who developed the new SHS curriculum for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA). She is also a Domain/Content Development Expert for the Teacher Licensure Examinations (English language option) spearheaded by the National Teaching Council (NTC). She currently consults for T-TEL and the Ghana Education Service as a School Improvement Advisor on transforming Ghana’s senior and technical high schools into centres of excellence.
Her research is situated within the broader field of Applied Linguistics, a practice-driven discipline addressing language-based problems in real world contexts. Her publications have addressed issues in the sub-fields of Sociolinguistics, English Language Teaching (ELT) Language and Literacy, and Educational Linguistics, with special focus on Language Teacher Identity (LTI), Gender and Curriculum, and Inclusive Language Pedagogy (ILP).
