The Department of Teacher Education established on 1st August 2014, began its academic journey during the 2015/2016 academic year. It was set up to be at the forefront of preparing professional educators for various contexts, and currently these include basic schools, secondary schools, colleges of education, and educational administration.

The Department is the most diversified within the School of Education and Leadership, College of Education, University of Ghana, offering twenty-two (22) programmes that provide students the opportunity to engage the theories, apply the concepts, and practise the principles of education in promoting teaching and learning in basic and secondary schools.

Our curriculum integrates research and innovation to enhance pedagogical strategies and skills and ensure relevance in today’s dynamic educational landscape. With technology taking a centre stage in development, the programmes also seek to prepare our graduates to competently use technology to improve teaching and learning and enhance educational effectiveness.
