Professor Louis Asiedu is currently a Professor of Mathematical Statistics and Head of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Ghana. He achieved Full Professor status at the age of 37, making him the youngest Full Professor in the country.
Professor Louis Asiedu began his early childhood, primary, and junior secondary education at Ebenezer Methodist Preparatory School (EMPS) in Techiman, located in the Bono East Region. He completed his secondary education at St. James Seminary Senior High School in Abesim, Bono Region, before advancing to the University of Ghana. There, he obtained a BSc in Mathematics and Statistics, followed by an MPhil in Statistics. Professor Asiedu then pursued a PhD in Mathematical Statistics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Professor Asiedu began his academic career at the University of Ghana in February 2014 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science. He was redesignated to Lecturer in August 2017, promoted to Senior Lecturer in September 2018, Associate Professor in September 2021, and Full Professor in September 2024.
His research interests include Image Processing, Machine Learning, and Stochastic Processes, with a particular focus on algorithmic decision-making under uncertainty. He has published over 50 articles in prestigious academic journals and has supervised over 8 PhD theses, along with several MPhil and MSc theses.
In addition to his academic achievements, Professor Asiedu has provided consultancy services to a range of government ministries, departments, and international organizations such as GIZ, EU, UKAID, FCDO, and USAID through the Ghana Trade and Investment Activity. He currently serves as a consultant and associate on the USAID Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment Activity, collaborating with key stakeholders including the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs, Ghana Link, and the Ministries of Trade and Industry.
Professor Asiedu is also an active member of various boards and committees at the University of Ghana and is highly proficient in advanced programming and analytical software.
