Career Overview
Dr Solomon Kofi Amoah holds a first degree in Sociology with the Study of Religions and an MPhil in Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon. He went on to take a PhD in Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Cape Coast where he worked on governance and executive transitions in civil society organisations in Ghana. Solomon worked at the Department of Distance Education, University of Ghana for three years before joining the Department of Sociology in August 2021 where he teaches and supervises students at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
Research Interests/Research Areas
Solomon is concerned with the social circumstances of work and how organisational structures inform the experiences, identities, and behaviours of people. He recognises that work and its organisation take on different forms across space and cultures. So, his research focuses on the nature of work and employment, technological change, and other transformations in organisations. He studies the responses (or rather, counter-responses) of labour unions, CSOs, the state and lead organisations to the changing nature of work. These include the study of new forms of work organisation and how demographics like gender and other factors intersect to shape occupations and work allocation.
Solomon welcomes students and researchers who wish to explore work and employment relations, work inequalities, the growth of the gig economy and job quality in the context of the global south.
