Prof. Ken Okwae Fening is an Associate Professor of Agricultural Entomology at the University of Ghana - Soil and Irrigation Research Centre. He holds a BSc (Hons.) degree in Zoology and MPhil Entomology from the University of Ghana (UG), and a PhD in Agricultural Entomology from Kenyatta University. He is the Sub-Regional Coordinator of the African Regional Postgraduate Programme in Insect Science (ARPPIS) – West African Subregional Centre, UG. Prof. Fening was a former Research Scientist (Entomologist) at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research - Crops Research Institute in Kumasi. He was a Cambridge-Africa Partnership for Research Excellence (CAPREx) Postdoctoral Research Fellow and a Visiting Scientist at the University of Cambridge.
He has collaborated with various stakeholders including GhanaVeg, HortiFresh West Africa, Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International, Plantwise/ PlantwisePlus, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Ghana’s Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate, Ghana Standards Authority, United States Agency for International Development, National Institute of Agricultural Botany, International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology, Committee Linking Entrepreneurship-Agriculture-Development., etc. in Integrated Pest Management, Quarantine Entomology, Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures and European Union Plant Health Regulations, Food safety and Organic Agriculture.
Prof. Fening has trained over 500 Phytosanitary Inspectors, Agricultural Extension Agents, Producers and Farmers, Exporters and Packhouse Managers in Plant Quarantine regulations. Prof. Fening teaches and supervises undergraduate and graduate students (MPhil and PhD) in agricultural entomology at the University of Ghana. Prof. Fening has participated in several national, regional and international conferences. He has over 50 journal articles, 10 book chapters, 60 conference proceedings and 30 pests management and extension guides, and 61 technical reports to his credit.
