Vision

To be recognized as the foremost scientific and innovative Centre in Ghana for research into the management of Vertisols and other associated soils for sustainable agricultural production.

Mission

To investigate the irrigation, mechanization and management requirements of the Vertisols and other soils for suitable crops, livestock and fish production on the Accra Plains.

The specific objectives of the Centre are to:

• develop soil management technologies that will promote sustainable crop production
• conduct studies on soil suitability for crops on the Accra Plains
• develop efficient water and nutrient management strategies for irrigated and rain-fed crop production
• investigate pest and disease problems of crops
• provide practical training for students, farmers and other interested stakeholders
• encourage collaborative research with other national and International Institutions
