About
Dr. Austin Wontepaga Luguterah is a Senior Lecturer and the Head of Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies (PESS). He is a sports management and governance specialist.
He has international certificates in Sports Management, Event Management, Coaching Effectiveness, and several coaching certificates (IAAF, FIVB, BWF, FIBA, IHF). He is the vice president of Ghana Volleyball Association (2023 to 2027), and the first Ghanaian to be appointed the Development Commissioner, Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone-3
Dr. Luguterah has more than 25 years of teaching experience in physical education and sports from Basic school through to the University. He was a Sports Manager and Lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University before moving to University of Ghana. He was an adjunct lecturer and volleyball coach in the department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Sports (HPERS) at the University of Education, Winneba from 2008 to 2020. He is credited to the organization of many short courses in volleyball, sports management, and governance in the country.
Education
He completed St John Bosco’s Training College, Navrongo in 1991 with Teacher certificate ‘A’, and attained his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and English Language from the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana in 1998. He has Master’s Degrees in Public Administration (University of Ghana, 2005), and Sports Management (Johan Cruyff Institute, 2010). He obtained his Ph.D. in Public Administration with specialism in Sports Policy from the University of South Africa in 2016.
Research Interest
His research interests include Sports Management, Sports policy and Governance, Contemporary Sports Leadership, Sports Coaching, and Sport for Social Intervention.
