Dr. Gwendolyn Patience Mensah is a senior lecturer at the Department of Maternal and Child Health, School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM), College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana. She is the coordinator for graduate and Doctoral(PhD) programmes for the SoNM.
She graduated in April 2017 with a PhD in Nursing from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), now Nelson Mandela University (NMU), Port Elisabeth (Gqeberha), South Africa. Gwendolyn was trained as a State Registered Nurse (SRN) and a Registered Midwife (RM) in 1992 and 1996 respectively. She had her BA in Nursing with Psychology in 2007 and MPhil in Nursing in 2012 from the SoNM, University of Ghana, Legon.
She has been a nurse/midwife for 30 years and has trained and mentored a number of nurses and midwives. She was in clinical practice/tutorship for 26 years and rose to the rank of Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) in 2014 before joining the SoNM faculty in 2018. She has special interest in qualitative research. She is the editor for the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM) and a reviewer for a number of peer reviewed journals.
Her research interest is in Gestational Diabetes, particularly the experiences of women with the history of Gestational Diabetes, and the postpartum management of these women and their children. She is also interested in the nursing management of women with Gestational Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, holistic care of the mother and child (Maternal and Child Health).
Dr Gwendolyn Mensah is a Queen Elizabeth Scholarships – Advanced scholar (QES – AS).
