MASC 452: Marine Sedimentology and Petrology

The course shall cover broad topics in sedimentology such as Marine sediments (terrigenous, biogenous, authigenous/hydrogenous, cosmogenous), Coastal and deep sea sedimentation process (Lithification and diagenesis), Coastal sedimentary environments (deltas, estuaries, dunes, tidal inlets and deltas, beaches, intertidal flats) and key properties of sedimentary particles (Grain size, shape, surface and orientation). The course will further introduce students to relevant topics in petrology such as rock cycle and rock forming processes, rock types, rock forming minerals, geological features of rocky coasts.
