MAFS 303: Biostatistics and Research Methods


Introduction to Biostatistics; Sampling – Random and non-random methods; Data summarization – measures of averages and dispersion; Types of data and their manipulation. Normal distribution – properties and applications; Standard error, Confidence interval and sampling distribution – definition, computation, interpretation and applications; Principles of hypothesis testing; Test of significance (t-test, one-way ANOVA, Chi square and Non parametric methods); Univariate and multivariate analysis. Correlation and Regression; Software packages (SPSS, Excel, PRIMER). General experimental design. Proposal writing; Critical review of research report and journal article.
