MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAMMES

Both our Master of Philosophy and Master of Science programmes place significant emphasis on research. Students are therefore prepared to acquire the requisite theoretical and experiential insights and capabilities to initiate, implement and complete a research agenda. Our MPhil programme is fundamentally a research degree and gives students on the programme the requisite attention and time to master the art and rigour of advanced research.  Students are supported to complete original research for their dissertation and for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Admission Requirements for Master of Science(MSc) in Climate Change and Sustainable Development

Applicants are required to obtain the following to qualify for admission:

  • A good first degree, preferably second class lower or better (or a Final Grade Point Average of at least 2.0), in a relevant field of study at the University of Ghana or any recognized/accredited University.
  • Applicants with third class may be considered for admission based on work experience and/or other qualifications.
  • Excellent proficiency in oral and written English

The MSc CCSD programme runs on a full-time basis for 1 year (12 months).

Admission Requirements for Master of Philosophy(MPhil) in Climate Change and Sustainable Development

Applicants are required to obtain the following to qualify for admission:

  • A good first degree, preferably second class lower or better (or a Final Grade Point Average of at least 2.0), in a relevant field of study at the University of Ghana or any recognized/accredited University.
  • Applicants with third class may be considered for admission based on work experience and/or other qualifications.
  • Excellent proficiency in oral and written English
  • Relevant Experience: While not always mandatory, having relevant research or professional experience related to climate change, sustainable development, environmental policy, or related fields is highly recommended. Such experience can include work in government agencies, NGOs, private sector, or research institutions.

The MPhil CCSD programme runs on a full-time basis for two years. (24 months)

 

This training prepares successful students for jobs in industry, government and also in academia.

The core courses for our graduate programmes are:

  • Climate Change: Science and Evidence

  •  Environmental Sustainability and Impact Evaluation

  •  Green Business Management

  •  Project Management

  •  Climate and Society

  •  Climate Change Policies and Legal Framework

  •  Research methods (quantitative and qualitative)

Students are allowed to choose from several elective courses including those listed below:

  • Carbon Accounting and Marketing

  • Water Resources Management

  • Communicating Climate Change

  • Climate Change and Health

  • Climate Change and Biodiversity

  • Climate Change and Food Security
