Dissemination Workshop: Students and Lecturers' Experiences in Graduate Programmes

One problem that confronts the University is that some graduate students are not able to complete their programme on time. In order to address this issue, the AQAU undertook two studies aimed at providing evidence-based information to inform Management’s decision-making on graduate programmes. Specifically, the objectives of the studies were to ascertain from both students and lecturers their experiences in the graduate programmes that they are pursuing and teaching respectively and covered various aspects of the academic journey, including teaching quality, research support, supervisor relationships and resource provision.

To disseminate the results of the report, the AQAU organise an online workshop for graduate students on Friday, July 7, 2023.  Making the presentation at the workshop, the Director of  AQAU, Prof. Daniel K. Twerefou indicated that the study revealed some interesting findings. Generally, results from the study indicate that both lecturers and students are putting in a lot of effort to ensure that graduate programmes achieve the level of success that is expected even though there are some challenges. The challenges included limited facilities, inadequate academic writing and presentation skills on the side of students, limited funding, mentoring and opportunities to present papers at workshops and conferences. The workshop discussed several recommendations aimed at addressing these challenges. Students in their contributions recommended an improvement in the motivation for lecturers to encourage them to give tier best. In a related issue, the dissemination of the findings of the report for Lecturers was organized in January 2023.
