Development of a Guide for Thesis/ Dissertation Supervision

Development of a Guide for Thesis/ Dissertation Supervision

One observation that was made by the AQAD is that graduate enrolment has increased significantly between 2015 and 2021. However, the same cannot be said about the completion of graduate programmes as the number of graduating students has always lagged behind admitted students. Following this observation, the Directorate conducted two studies to ascertain the reason for this low completion rate.

One of the issues that came up was the lack of clear guidelines on the supervisee-supervisor roles and responsibilities.  To ground-truth, this observation and build consensus, a meeting was held with key stakeholders on December 12, 2023The meeting was attended by the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Prof. Robert Darko Osei, Vice Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Prof. Dorcas Osei-Safo, and the Director of the Academic Affairs Directorate, Madam Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah.

The Director of the AQAD Prof. Daniel K. Twerefou briefed members on the objective of the meeting that was informed by two studies undertaken by the Directorate. The meeting confirmed the need for such a guide and proposed the setting up of a Committee to develop a Guide for Thesis/Dissertation Supervision for the university. The Committee also proposed some potential members of the Committee. Since then, a letter has been sent to the Pro-Vice Chancellor to that effect and it is receiving attention. The meeting was also attended by staff of the Directorate including the assistant registrar Mr. Bernard Eghan.
