The Academic Quality Assurance Directorate (AQAD) is the University’s central unit responsible for promoting and monitoring quality standards in teaching, learning, research, and service delivery. It ensures that all academic programs comply with national regulations and international benchmarks.
AQAD is mandated to:
- Coordinate institutional and program accreditation activities.
- Monitor academic quality through Course and Lecturer Evaluations (CLE).
- Facilitate program reviews and curriculum development.
- Promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
- Ensure compliance with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and other regulatory bodies.
Quality assurance protects the credibility of academic programs, promotes accountability, and ensures that graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for the job market and national development.
- Collecting feedback through the Course and Lecturer Evaluation (CLE).
- Ensuring that programs remain relevant, credible, and of high quality.
- Facilitating the provision of effective teaching and learning environments.
- Conduct surveys on student experiences on campus.
Faculty members are key stakeholders in the quality assurance process. They:
- Deliver teaching in accordance with approved curricula.
- Participate actively in curriculum and program reviews.
- Respond to student feedback to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
The CLE is an anonymous and confidential feedback mechanism that allows students to evaluate teaching and learning. The results highlight strengths and areas for improvement in both course delivery and lecturer performance.
The CLE is conducted at the end of every semester across all programs and delivery modes (regular and distance).
Yes. All CLE responses are treated with the highest level of confidentiality and are used solely to improve teaching, learning, and service delivery. Student identities remain anonymous.
The CLE typically takes place two to three weeks before examination week, with the exact dates announced on the Academic Calendar. Notices about the exercise are sent to students and lecturers a week before it begins. To access the platform:
- Go to the student services (STS) portal or UG webpage.
- Log in to your Student Services portal using your Student ID and PIN.
- Click on the 'Course/Lecturer Evaluation' link to start the evaluation.
You must evaluate all your registered courses to activate the course verification link. If you encounter any anomalies, you should contact your department. The link is accessible on smartphones and tablets.
Students can also help by peer-educating their friends on the importance of these activities and by inviting the unit to participate in student events like Hall Week celebrations. To support the CLE specifically, students are encouraged to periodically visit the AQAU's website for news, use their UG emails for information on surveys, and evaluate all their courses and lecturers every semester.
AQAD works in partnership with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), professional bodies, and other accrediting agencies to ensure institutional compliance with established quality standards.
Programs undergo periodic reviews to evaluate their relevance, structure, and quality. These reviews involve faculty, students, alumni, industry stakeholders, and external assessors.
AQAD organizes training workshops, sensitization sessions, and capacity-building initiatives on effective teaching, learning, assessment, and curriculum design.
