Call for Applications: MPhil Scholarship Tenable at the University of Ghana

Starting June 28, 2023 - Ending June 28, 2024

The Centre for Biodiversity Conservation Research (CBCR) is pleased to announce a call for applications for the award of TWO (2) MPhil Scholarships under a project, title:  Examining the socio-economic and health vulnerabilities of female ‘bushmeat’ traders in Ghana during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. This Project is implemented under a partnership with the York University (Canada), and seeks to examine the interrelated factors that determine women’s livelihood challenges and opportunities in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing on the lived experience of women bushmeat traders in Ghana.

The scholarship targets second year MPhil students of the University of Ghana in the under-listed disciplines who may be interested to conduct their research in our project area.

· Department of Animal Biology and Conservation Science

· Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (IESS),

· Department of Geography and Resource Development (GRD),

· Department of Sociology

· School of Public Health

· ISSER

Each scholarship is for a 12-month period and will cover tuition fees for the MPhil Year II, research costs and a monthly stipend towards living costs.

As a successful candidate, you will be part of the research team on the project. Under the guidance of the project team members and your supervisors, you will undertake an independent research that fits within the theme of the project, participate in research workshops, networking and other project events and publish at least one peer reviewed paper in an impact factor journal.

 

Eligibility Criteria

We invite applications from candidates with the following credentials: 

· Must be an MPhil student already enrolled in one of the listed units at the University of Ghana.

· Must be proceeding to MPhil Part II.

- Proven experience with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies; excellent skills in conducting and analyzing in-depth interviews and field observations; familiarity with gender analysis will be an advantage.

· Must be able to work independently.

- Excellent English speaking, reading and writing skills.
