Admissions into the Practice Proficiency Medical Programme (PPMP) for 2022/2023 Academic Year

In the nation’s quest to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and to provide quality health care to the citizenry, there are efforts to increase the number and practice proficiency of physicians practicing at all levels of the health care system in Ghana. Ghanaians trained outside as doctors are currently required to take and pass the Ghana Medical and Dental Council’s Licensure Examination which assesses their basic knowledge and clinical skills for the safety of  Ghanaians, and all the clients they would see. This short course is designed to improve the knowledge base of these doctors in the basic and paraclinical sciences, as well as their clinical skills. This would enhance their knowledge and ability to go through the Ghana Medical and Dental Council’s Licensure Examination, improve their proficiency for the practice of the profession and support the national quest to ensure safe medical practice and quality of care of patients.

Entry Requirements

A candidate would be admitted into the programme if:

1. He/ She has completed medical school and yet to do internship or/

2. He/ She will be required to provide proof of qualification when applying and provide clear evidence of their primary medical qualification. This should take the form of:

  • A certificate from that university or other body, which granted their primary medical qualification stating the date on which the certificate was granted.
  • A certificate from that university or other body, with appropriate dates, that they have completed their course of study and are eligible to receive the qualification.

Note that all certificates should bear the university’s stamp, insignia or evidence of authenticity and should be signed by a person whose name and official position are clearly identified.

 

Nature of Programme and Duration

The programme has been structured into six (6) modules with Basic Sciences incorporated in all. Each module would run for four (4) weeks. The 6 modules comprise of the following:

Specialties (Radiology, Orthopedics, Urology, Dermatology, Infectious diseases and Psychiatry), Medicine and Therapeutics, Surgery, Child Health, Community Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology

 

Note that modules will be preceded by a two-week basic sciences overview course

 

Cost of Programme 

The programme has been designed with applicants having options to participate in all the modules or choose modules that they would like to pursue:

CATEGORY B (OPTIONAL)           

Accommodation (GH₡15,000.00), Single Module (GH₡6,250.00) or Mock Examination Only (GH₡3,750.00)

 

Mode of Application

  1. Letter of clearance for the licensure exams from Medical and Dental Council (MDC) 
  2. Applicants will pick up a registration form from the School Administrator’s Secretariat Room 2, University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS).
 

Application Deadline

All forms should be completed and submitted by Friday, February 13, 2023 at the School Administrator’s Secretariat Room 2, UGMS
