UG FOOTBALL SENSATION SIGNS WITH ACCRA GREAT OLYMPICS

Arnold Abbey-Mensah, a graduate of the University of Ghana (UG) has signed a 3-year contract with one of the oldest football clubs in Ghana, Accra Great Olympics.

He was scouted during the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games hosted by UG in January 2020. Abbey-Mensah, a dynamic and hardworking attacking midfielder played three matches during the Games scoring a goal and assisting another.

He spoke exclusively to the Sports Directorate after his unveiling at his new club.

“I am happy to sign my first professional contract with one of the greatest clubs in Ghana. I hope to win the Ghana Premier League with Olympics and progress to play for the national teams. I am grateful to the University of Ghana Sports Directorate for the opportunity to wear the Gold and Blue jersey during GUSA 2020. I will forever cherish the moments I had with the team and I am charged to make UG proud.”

The Football Coach at the Sports Directorate, Mr. Tahiru Yusif Amuda, is optimistic Abbey-Mensah will flourish at Olympics.

“This is a good signing for both club and player. I believe Abbey-Mensah has the skill set to flourish with Olympics. His mental toughness and determination to excel will be a great asset for him at a club that demands so much from his players.”

Arnold Abbey-Mensah studied Bachelor of Science in Dental Laboratory Science. He will wear jersey number 24 during his debut season with Accra Great Olympics in the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League scheduled to commence in November 2020.
