The course introduces the student to the fundamentals of Modern Standard Arabic, intended to develop a mastery of the Arabic alphabet for rudimentary reading and writing to build the foundational grammar for understanding short passages from both the Qur’an and the Hadith. Additionally, students will also acquire a fair understanding of the Arabs and their culture from the classical to the modern period in the context of Islamic Studies.
