DANC 607 (DANCE ETHNOLOGY (M.PHIL) : Dance and African Social Systems

This module focuses on how dance is seen as the regulator of social systems in African cultures. The concept of ‘African society’ will be explored as well as how dance becomes the window through which one can do an in-depth investigation into African social structures and their modus operandi. Key issues will focus on the more encompassing nature of dance in African societies, extending to kinship, gender, cosmology and social ethics.
