The Centre for Ageing Studies Donates to Older Persons

The Centre for Ageing Studies (CFAS), as part of its outreach programmes, organized an event on Tuesday, 21st December 2021 and donated assorted items including cloth, foodstuff, and toiletries to over 100 older persons in various communities in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions of Ghana. The beneficiaries belong to associations that collaborate with CFAS on diverse activities. This programme is a yearly event that the Centre has been organizing since its inception in 2016. The event took place at the Centre’s premises, and it was sponsored by a number of organizations and individuals.

Among the organizations were Ghana Oil Company Ltd. (GOIL), CIDAN Investments Ltd., Three Hills Company Ltd., Nadel Stationary Ltd., DOT Pharmacy, Lincoln Aytes Enterprise and Walk with Pearls. The individual sponsors include Tatiana Edem Aglobitse, Charity Amanoo, Dr. Phyllis Dako-Gyeke, Dr. Emmanuel Asampong, Prof. Edward Amponsah-Nketiah, Prof. Kwesi Torpey, Dr. Victoria Nana Yaa Cudjo, Dr. Yaw Boateng Mensah, Ms. Akosua Aboagyewaa Darkwa, Dr. Vyda M. Hervie, and Alhaji Sule.

The event started with an opening prayer by Rev. Dr Samuel Ayete-Nyampong, a member of the CFAS management committee. A welcome address followed and it was delivered by the Director of the Centre, Prof. Mavis Dako-Gyeke. The centrepiece of the address was her expression of deep appreciation to the supporting organizations for their continued work with the Centre and further urged the older persons to take good care of themselves and maintain healthy lifestyles during this COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, Prof. Mavis Dako-Gyeke encouraged family members and friends to provide adequate care for older people as they have played pivotal roles in families, communities and the society.

As part of the programme, Dr Akosua Agyemang offered a brief information about the Centre for Ageing Studies to the audience. This was followed with a session that saw all agency representatives, other participants present, and staff of the Centre introduce themselves. After this, the programme moderator invited Rev. Dr Ayete-Nyampong to pray over the items before they were distributed.

   

The items were distributed to the beneficiaries thereafter. While some older persons were present to collect their packages, others were unable to come to the event hence, their packages were given to the agency representatives and other personnel to be delivered to them. The agency representatives and some beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Centre for the kind gesture shown to them.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Saeed Firdaus after all the items had been distributed. Rev. Dr Ayete-Nyampong was invited again to offer a closing prayer after which participants were served lunch, and there were friendly interactions and expression of Merry Christmas and Happy New Year among all present.
