Brief History
The Department of Adult Education and Human Resource Studies is a leading centre of excellence in lifelong learning, community education, and workforce development in Ghana and across Africa. Established with a strong commitment to empowering individuals, communities, and organizations, the department plays a pivotal role in advancing adult learning theory, practice, and research within the University of Ghana.
Grounded in the philosophy of lifelong and life-wide learning, the department provides innovative programmes that address contemporary educational needs, social development priorities, and workplace learning challenges. Through teaching, research, and community engagement, we prepare practitioners, scholars, and leaders who contribute meaningfully to national development and global educational discourses.
Our academic programmes integrate adult education, community development, organizational learning, and human resource development to equip students with the knowledge, professional skills, and critical perspectives needed to support learning across the lifespan. We work closely with governmental agencies, civil society organizations, corporate institutions, and international partners to ensure our programmes remain relevant, evidence-based, and impactful.

Head of Department
Professor Inusah Salifu was duly appointed as Head of the Department of Adult Education and Human Resource Studies (AEHRS) at the University of Ghana, with his appointment taking effect from March 1, 2023. He officially assumed office following the issuance of the University’s appointment notice, marking the beginning of his leadership of the Department.
