Vice-Chancellor, Champions Wellness and Team Spirit at the University of Ghana Corporate Tennis Championship

Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana kicked off the maiden University of Ghana Corporate Tennis Championship in grand style and what a thrilling start it was!

Serving as Chairperson of the event, Professor Amfo led Team VC in the curtain-raiser mixed doubles match, partnering with Mr. Isaac Aboagye Duah. The duo delivered a captivating performance and secured a well-deserved 6–2 victory, earning cheers and bragging rights from the enthusiastic crowd.

The Vice-Chancellor dedicated the win to her husband, Mr. Frank, in celebration of his birthday, adding a warm and personal touch to the day’s excitement. 

She extended heartfelt appreciation to her teammate, Mr. Aboagye Duah, for his great partnership, and commended their formidable opponents, Dr. Maame Araba Amfo and Professor Richmond Aryeetey, for their spirited play and fine display of sportsmanship.

The excitement continued as teams from the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Stanbic Bank PLC, and GOIL PLC battled it out in a day of fun, energy, and serious tennis action. Team VRA emerged as the overall champions, taking home well-earned glory. 

Professor Amfo also lauded the UG Sports Directorate for organising such a vibrant and spirited event that successfully fostered unity, wellness, and engagement across the university and its corporate partners.

Special appreciation went to the event partners; the Ghana Tennis Federation and Rite Sports Ltd and to the sponsors, including Verna Water, Magic Malt, and others, for their invaluable support in making the championship a resounding success.

In her closing remarks, Professor Amfo emphasized that at the University of Ghana, wellness, collaboration, and community spirit are as essential as academic excellence. The Corporate Tennis Championship, she noted, beautifully embodied these values and reflected the University’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant, healthy, and united community.
