Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo Joins UTAG’s 22nd Biennial National Delegates Congress as UGBS’s Professor Vera Ogeh Fiador Makes History as First Female UTAG President

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, joined members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) at the 22nd Biennial Delegates Congress, where a historic moment was witnessed, the swearing-in of Professor Vera Fiador as the first female National President of UTAG.

The event, held at the Hill Palace Hotel, Aburi, was a celebration of leadership, excellence, and progress in academia. Professor Fiador, who also serves as the Head of the Department of Finance at the University of Ghana Business School, is notably the first female Professor of Finance at the University of Ghana and a proud member of HOPSAN.

The Vice-Chancellor had the honour of chairing the opening ceremony, which featured a keynote address by the Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education, on “The Role of Higher Education in National Development and the Future of AI Integration.” Insightful contributions were also shared by Ing. Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari (Director-General, CI-KACE), Professor Joshua Abor, Professor Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, and Ing. Professor Felix K. Abagale.

Adding a special touch to the occasion, the organisers surprised Professor Amfo with a birthday cake, which she graciously cut alongside the Honourable Minister and fellow Vice-Chancellors, Professor Richard Amankwah (UMaT) and Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor (UPSA).

The Vice-Chancellor expressed her appreciation to UTAG for the honour and extended heartfelt congratulations to Professor Fiador and her team as they lead UTAG into a new era.

“This milestone is not only a win for women in academia but a celebration of dedication, leadership, and the spirit of progress. Together, we can do it,” she remarked.
