UNIVERSITY OF GHANA

It is with great pleasure that I welcome to the launch of the 75th anniversary celebration of Ghana’s premier university, the University of Ghana. The theme for the anniversary celebration, “Nurturing Resilience: Adopting Technology, Embracing Humanism”, takes its direction from the University’s vision, and from the multiple and rapid changes occurring in Africa and the world today, especially in higher education.

When I was inducted into office on October 26, as the 13th Vice-Chancellor, I shared my vision “to create a culture that promotes research, teaching and learning, and administrative processes and extension activities driven by technology and anchored in humanism.”  This vision supports the University’s overall vision of becoming a “world-class research-intensive university”.

The 75th anniversary gives us an opportunity to actualise this vision with you, our many family members, while we also look back at how far we have come, celebrate our achievements, and reflect on ways we can continue to advance as an institution of higher learning.

I welcome all our internal and external stakeholders, alumni, and friends of the University, on board the 75th-anniversary train, and look forward to your support and participation in the various activities outlined for the year-long celebration.

Professor. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo
