SOWK 446: Working with People in Need of Protection

The course is designed for students to gain insight into circumstances that lead people to situations where they need protection. It examines basic human needs, societal responses and arrangements for meeting those needs. It also emphasises the impact and implications of deprivations on the individual, family, community and society.  Laws such as Human Trafficking Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Children’s Act, Persons with Disability Act, among others are discussed in this course.
