Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe is the Pro Vice-Chancellor responsible for Research, Innovation and Development at the University of Ghana. He assumed office on 1 August 2026 and provides strategic leadership for the University's research, innovation, and development agenda.

Professor Codjoe is a Professor of Population Studies with over two decades of experience in teaching, research and academic leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Geography and Resource Development from the University of Ghana, an M.Phil. in Human Geography from the University of Oslo, Norway, and a Ph.D. in Geography, with a minor in Soil Science, from the University of Bonn, Germany. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Administration and Management.

He joined the University of Ghana as a Lecturer in 2004 after serving as a Research Officer with the Population Impact Project. Since then, he has risen through the academic ranks to become Professor of Population Studies. Prior to his appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor, he served as Provost of the College of Education. He also served as Deputy Director and later Director of the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), where he provided leadership in research, postgraduate education and institutional development.

Professor Codjoe's research focuses on population and development, population health, urbanisation, population–environment interactions, environmental change and climate change. His work has informed research, policy and practice on issues relating to climate adaptation, environmental sustainability, food security and human well-being in Ghana and other parts of Africa. He has led and collaborated on numerous internationally funded research projects and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, books and book chapters.

A Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS), Professor Codjoe has made significant contributions to the advancement of population studies and interdisciplinary research in Africa. He served as President of the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) from 2015 to 2019 and has served on the editorial boards of several international journals, including Regional Environmental Change and PLOS Climate, as well as Associate Editor of Frontiers in Climate. He has also supervised numerous master's and doctoral students and continues to contribute to international research collaborations and capacity-building initiatives.

As Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Development), Professor Codjoe is responsible for advancing the University's research and innovation agenda, strengthening interdisciplinary and international research collaborations, promoting postgraduate research and capacity development, supporting innovation and technology transfer, and enhancing the visibility and impact of the University of Ghana's research.
