Welcome to the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development

The Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development (RID), under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, is responsible for advancing the University’s research and innovation agenda. The University of Ghana (UG) ’s research vision is to be the institution of choice for collaborative research and industry partnerships. Aligned with this vision is the mission to promote UG’s global impact through enhanced collaborative research and partnerships, knowledge generation, and dissemination.

The University is home to Centres of Excellence, distinguished research institutions, innovation hubs and departments where pioneering research aims to address social, environmental and human health challenges in seven priority areas (Research Strategy: 2024-2029):

1. Infectious and non-communicable diseases

2. Food production and processing, including improved approaches to breeding

3. Trans-disciplinary research into climate change adaptation

4. Development policy, poverty monitoring and evaluation

5. Politics, socio-cultural change, mobility and development

6. Creative arts, education and communication, and Information Literacy

7. Fourth industrial revolution tools (artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, digital transformation, etc)

In advancing UG’s research enterprise, the office endeavours to become more relevant to UG’s stakeholders and welcomes all constituents who share in our quest to make the world a better place through science, innovation and development.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (RID) oversees the activities of the Research and Innovation Directorate, Institutional Research and Planning Directorate, Information Technology Directorate and the Institute of Applied Science and Technology.
