Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo charges African Scholars to be interested in the creation of new knowledge in the humanities.

 

Chairperson of the Steering Interim Committee of the African Humanities Program (AHP) and Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Students Affairs of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has charged scholars in the field of Humanities in Africa to be proud and eager to add to the creation of new knowledge in Africa and the world. 

 

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the 2020 AHP-University of Ghana virtual workshop, she mentioned that humanities scholars should be interested in carrying out research which contributes to knowledge creation in Africa and the larger world. Participants were also charged to be realistic in their work plan and succinct in their presentation. 

 

The two-day event, which was moderated by Dr. Jemima Anderson of the Department of English, was facilitated by senior scholars such as Prof. Oyeniyi Okunoye from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria; Prof. Yaw Sekyi Baidoo of University of Education, Ghana; Prof. Bola Udegbe from University of Ibadan; Nigeria; and Professor. Sr. Dominica Dipio from Makerere University, Uganda. This year's event hosted by University of Ghana attracted participants from University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast, and Sunyani Technical University. 

The African Humanities Program (AHP) postdoctoral competition is an academic competition that seeks to award and appreciate scholars in Humanities in some selected African countries. The postdoctoral competition which was first started in 2009 ends with the 2020-2021 competition after awarding over 400 scholars.
