The Girl Child Education must be the responsibility of all and sundry - Prof. Appiah Amfo

The Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has charged the public to take responsibility for the education of the girl child.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the twelfth edition of the Ghana International Model United Nations (GIMUN) Conference 2021 yesterday, the academician tasked all persons within the global space to commit to the education of the girl child. This she believes is one of the ways to bridge the inequality gap between girls and their male counterparts.

Speaking on the topic “Empowering girls to achieve sustainable goal four”, Prof. Appiah Amfo, bemoaned the old-aged situation where the girl child is restricted from going to school by societal factors such as caring for their families and performing household chores amongst others. She maintained that, “an educated citizenry helps bring development” and as such citizens especially the girl child must be educated.

Professor Appiah Amfo further encouraged girls to take education seriously while admonishing them to recognize its importance for themselves and their families as well. She therefore challenged young ladies to believe in themselves, stay determined, and put in place proper planning and copying mechanisms to aid their future.
