Message from the Dean
Dean's Welcome Message
You are warmly welcome to the website of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Ghana. It is an honour to lead this esteemed School, building on the solid foundation laid by our distinguished past Deans. The School of Pharmacy is a constituent unit within the College of Health Sciences, and its vision and strategic objectives are closely aligned with the University of Ghana’s Strategic Plan (2024–2029). These focus on five key priority areas: delivering a transformative pharmacy students’ experience, advancing impactful pharmaceutical and health research, fostering a strong commitment to faculty and staff, strengthening engagement and partnerships, and promoting sustainable resource mobilisation and stewardship.
As a school, we strive to create a dynamic and supportive learning environment that equips pharmacy students with the knowledge, practical and professional skills needed to excel in all aspects of pharmacy practice.
We are proud to have received the 2025 Prof. A. N. Tackie Excellence in Pharma Education Award, a national recognition of our commitment to quality training and leadership in pharmacy education. Pharm. Dr. Maame Adjoa Gyasiwaa Aidoo, a member of the School’s pioneer Doctor of Pharmacy graduating class, exemplifies the excellence and dedication of the School. Her recognition as the overall best candidate in the 2024 Ghana Pharmacy Professional Qualifying Examinations indicates the high standards upheld by our students, faculty, and staff.
Our faculty and students are actively engaged in cutting-edge pharmaceutical research across all five departments: Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics and Microbiology, Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy. In addition to department-specific initiatives, we pursue interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research that addresses both national and global health priorities—ranging from pharmaceutical and herbal medicine discovery and development to pharmacovigilance and the optimisation of medication use. The dedicated team of faculty, staff and students is committed to promoting interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaborations that enhance the impact and relevance of our research.
We are also deeply committed to strengthening both local and international collaborations. The School of Pharmacy actively partners with healthcare institutions, regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and academic institutions. These strategic partnerships enhance training opportunities for our students, as well as contribute towards impactful research and improved health outcomes.
As we build on our past achievements and lead the School into a future of innovation, excellence and societal impact, we warmly invite partnerships in the areas of training, research, product development and service delivery. Together, we can shape the future of pharmaceutical education and healthcare.
“Excellence in Pharmacy Education, Innovation, and Impact – Our Commitment, Our Future.”
