This PhD programmes aims to contribute training PhD level graduates for the health sector.

The PhD in Health Science programme at Makerere University is conducted largely as a FULL-TIME study programme of four years (one year of course work and 3 years for research) which will be the case in this mobility.  This PhD programme offers training at an advanced level in all health science fields so as to meet the challenges of traditional and emerging diseases; rapid population growth; and dwindling health resources. It is particularly suited for researchers, teachers and managers in the health care system including training institutions of higher learning and research projects. The programme will contribute to staff development particularly in the Colleges of Health Sciences and Health Ministries and their research organisations.

The PhD is by course work consisting of 9 courses; teaching by doctoral students equivalent to 15 contact hours (1 Credit Unit); scientific communication consisting of seminars and scientific conferences (4 Credit Units); and a thesis consisting of 2 publications and 2 manuscripts (18 Credit Units).
