Vice-Chancellor Receives Delegation from University of Ankara

A four-member delegation from the University of Ankara, Turkey, led by Dr. Selma Yilmaz, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, to follow up on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two universities in 2019.

Introducing the purpose of the visit, Prof. Andrew Anthony Adjei, Coordinator of the Vice-Chancellor’s Strategic Teams, disclosed that a seven-member faculty from the University of Ghana had visited the University of Ankara following the signing of the MoU. Since then, processes have begun to assist the University of Ankara to set up departments of African Studies, Modern Languages, Study of Religions and a unit modelled after the Office of Research, Innovation, and Development (ORID).

The current visit by the delegation from Turkey is aimed at soliciting the University’s assistance in strengthening the Faculty of Health at the University of Ankara, and to commence the Erasmus and the Mevlana Exchange programmes, which are aimed at providing students from the University of Ghana with an opportunity to spend a semester at the University of Ankara in furtherance of the objectives of the MoU.

In his welcome remarks, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu expressed the University’s appreciation for the partnership with the University of Ankara. He encouraged the visiting delegation to have further interactions with the leadership of the Colleges and ORID during its five-day working visit to the University.

In his response, Dr. Yilmaz expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between the two Universities. He conveyed an invitation from the University of Ankara to the Vice-Chancellor and the four Provosts to visit and experience the University of Ankara.

Mr. Ramazan Topal, Assistant Project Coordinator for the Erasmus Programme, spoke extensively on the scholarship offers available, which were open to students at all levels in the University of Ghana. He was hopeful that the University of Ghana would take advantage of the many opportunities available to faculty members, students and administrators.

Other members of the delegation from Ankara were Ms. Kubra Kerse and Ms. Ceydo Atilgan, from the Faculty of Medicine.
