Vice-Chancellor Receives Award At CCPOP- Ghana 2016

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof Ernest Aryeetey has been honoured by the Regional Institute for population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana at the 2016 International Climate Change and Population Conference on Africa (CCPOP-Ghana2016) for his exemplary leadership and immense support for the conference.

A citation was presented to him by the Director of the Regional Institute for Population Studies, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe who described him as a leader with vision and passion.

In his response, Prof Aryeetey thanked RIPS for the kind words and presentation.  He noted that even though Africans have the resources to combat climate change, they are often told that they were not capable of doing so. The Vice Chancellor therefore praised CCPOP-Ghana, a concept of the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS) to bring together major stakeholders from science to practice and policy to share lessons towards responding to the impacts of climate change.

Prof Aryeetey emphasised the need for such conferences to help build universities across the continent and added that he had challenged academic units at the University of Ghana to do so and was happy this was gradually growing.  He indicated that since most academic units are following in the steps of RIPS and the Climate Change Working Group, he was hopeful that the conference would grow bigger with more participants.
