Vice Chancellor Honoured at the GUBA Awards, 2021

 The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Receives Award

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, was honoured at the 2021 Grow Unite Build Africa (GUBA) Awards on November 8, 2021 as the GUBA Nana Yaa Asantewaa Woman of Enlightenment.

The GUBA Nana Yaa Asantewaa Woman of Enlightenment award celebrates a courageous and resilient woman whose work in academia has created knowledge, built confidence and broken down barriers to opportunities.

Prof. Amfo noted with joy her appreciation for the privilege of being associated with Nana Yaa Asantewaa. She dedicated the award to all the courageous and resilient young ladies and girls in Africa and the diaspora with African descent. She urged them to be achievers in this generation.

The glamorous awards ceremony was well attended by Her Excellency Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, First Lady of the Republic of Ghana; Hon. Frema Osei Opare, Chief of Staff; Ministers of State; Prof. Esi Sutherland-Addy and high-profile dignitaries from Africa and the diaspora.

The awards ceremony was interspersed with recitals, musical and indigenous dance performances by Angélique Kidjo, Nana Asaase, Hope Masike and artistes from the African continent.

The theme for this year’s GUBA awards was “Celebrating a symbol of Courage and Resilience”. It sought to acknowledge African women and women of African origin for their positive impact on society.
