Vice-Chancellor Donates to Support One-Student-One Laptop Initiative

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has donated ten laptops, as part of efforts to support the One-Student-One-Laptop (1S1L) initiative which falls under her Programme for Enhancing the UG Student Experience through Digitalisation.

Prof. Amfo, in handing over the laptops to the Chairman of the 1S1L Committee, conveyed her joy in contributing her resources to the initiative. She stated the need to equally include her bankroll and urged members of the University to be encouraged by the example she has set. “I have to put my money where my mouth is. I encourage members of the University community to follow this example. It doesn’t only have to be the One-Student-One-Laptop programme alone, there is also the Classroom Modernisation Project and the Hotspot Comfort Zones initiatives. You can support any”, she added. She was hopeful that support from both internal and external stakeholders will greatly aggrandise the initiative and meet its intended purpose.

Prof. Peter Quartey, Chair, 1S1L Committee, in receiving the laptops, applauded Prof. Amfo for setting the pace for other members of the University to follow. Prof. Quartey noted that the gesture by the Vice-Chancellor will trigger other members of the University to pursue this worthy cause. He pledged to equally support the initiative with his resources.

Prof. Samuel Kwasi Dartey-Baah, Director, Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA), in brief remarks thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the laptops. He disclosed plans by OIA to urge Deans and Directors to contribute resources within their capacity to support the initiative. Prof. Dartey-Baah stated that this action by the Vice-Chancellor will encourage many of the internal stakeholders and embolden the Office of Institutional Advancement to pursue that agenda. He expressed confidence in his office contributing its quota to making the initiative a success.

Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, Registrar, in giving the closing remarks appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for supporting the initiative not only in words. She noted that the entire University will take it as a task to equally contribute to the initiative. She encouraged the internal stakeholders not to relent in supporting the initiative within their means or capacity.

The Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Elizier T. Ameyaw-Buronyah, earlier welcomed all present for the brief ceremony. She was thankful to the Vice-Chancellor for the step she has taken to support the initiative. She encouraged all members of the University to be inspired and also champion the initiative.
