Vice-Chancellor Commissions 75th Anniversary Secretariat

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has commissioned the University’s 75th Anniversary Secretariat at a brief ceremony. 

Expressing her profound appreciation to the invited guests, Prof. Amfo specially thanked Grace-Filled Ventures for setting up the office by donating beautiful and durable furniture including executive desks and chairs, sofas and tables for the waiting area, cabinets and magazines, to the sum of GHC62,608. She described the set up as visually appealing and aesthetically breath-taking, giving the Anniversary Planning Secretariat a great ambiance.   

The Vice-Chancellor also reflected on the gains the University has made over the past seven and a half decades as a pacesetter in higher education in Ghana. “We are energised to do more and to create an enabling environment that makes University of Ghana increasingly relevant to national and global development and to achieve the mission of becoming a world-class research-intensive university”, she said. 

Commending pupils of the University Basic School for their participation in the anniversary celebrations by engaging in a tree planting exercise, Prof. Amfo mentioned that the 75th Anniversary Planning Committee has outlined a broad range of programmes targeting both internal and external stakeholders of the University. She entreated cooperate bodies and individuals to support the anniversary celebration to make it an experience of a life-time. 

Taking their turns, Prof. Akosua Adomako-Ampofo and Prof. Clement Appah, Chair and Co-Chair of the 75th Anniversary Planning Committee respectively, expressed profound gratitude to all the institutions and partners who have supported the celebration so far. They also lauded the efforts of all the members of the Committee, Sub-Committees and staff of the Secretariat. Prof. Appah outlined the planned activities for the anniversary celebrations which is expected to end by 30th of July, 2023. 

In brief remarks, Mr. Bern Asmah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Grace-Filled Ventures, and an alumnus of the University, noted how honoured his brand is to be part of celebrating UG at 75. 

Delivering the vote of thanks, Mrs. Joanna Omaboe, Assistant Registrar, 75th Anniversary Secretariat, expressed appreciation to the University’s Management and all corporate partners for their support. Rev. Prof. Charles Antwi-Bosiako, University Chaplain, dedicated the office and prayed for the members of the Committee and organisations who support the team. The gathering later had the opportunity to tour the new office space. 

Present at the event were representatives of corporate organisations, media partners, members of the 75th anniversary planning committee and sub-committees  as well as members of the University community.
