Vice-Chancellor and Other University Officials Tour LIPREC

The Vice-Chancellor and other officials touring the Dairy unit of the Centre

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, together with some University officials, is embarking on familiarisation tours of the University’s Agricultural Research Centres. 

The first centre visited was the Livestock and Poultry Research Centre (LIPREC). Welcoming the Vice-Chancellor and her delegation, Dr. Leonard Kofi Adjorlolo, Head of the Centre was elated that despite their hectic schedule, Management had made the time to visit their facility.

Dr. Adjorlolo presented a brief outlook of the operations of the Centre, its research impact on livestock and poultry production and students’ practical training. He also pointed to the Centre’s collaborations with foreign missions and enumerated some of its challenges.

The delegation held a stakeholder meeting with the leadership of LIPREC, after which the Vice-Chancellor presented a Tata Pick-up on behalf of Management to the Centre. Prof. Amfo expressed hope that with the addition to the fleet of vehicles of the Centre, its activities would be enhanced.

Prof. Boateng Onwona-Agyeman, Provost, College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS), charged the Centre to keep an excellent maintenance culture.

The Vice-Chancellor and her delegation later toured the Dairy, Piggery, Poultry and Animal Traction Units. They also visited the Grasscutter Breeding Project Unit and LIPREC’s Feedmill.  At all the units visited, the officials interacted with the staff and Unit Heads.

In her concluding remarks, the Vice-Chancellor mentioned plans towards revamping the Agricultural Research Centres in the areas of research, production, and training in the medium and long term. Prof. Amfo also expressed profound appreciation to the delegation and all the staff of LIPREC for the warm reception.

The University Officials present were Prof. Felix Asante, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development; Prof. George Oduro Nkansah, Director, Institute of Applied Science and Technology; Prof. Kwasi Darteh-Baah, Acting Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement; Prof. Irene Susana Egyir, Dean, School of Agriculture; Prof. Eric Yirenkyi Danquah, Director, West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement; Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, College Secretary, CBAS, Mr. Benjamin Addo, CBAS Finance Officer, Mrs. Arhizah Blay-Abiti, Senior Assistant Registrar, Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor. 

The LIPREC team comprised Dr. Eric Cofie Timpong-Jones and Dr. Christopher Adenyo, Senior Research Fellows and Mr. Ebenezer Budu-Biney, Coordinator, Leventis Foundation Programme.
