Vice Chancellor’s Ceremony in Honour of Academic Awards Winners for the 2016/2017 Academic Year Held

Students of the University who displayed outstanding academic prowess in the 2016/2017 Academic year have been honoured at an awards ceremony held in the Great Hall of the University.

Welcoming the guests to the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu commended the awardees for a great work done and urged them to be good ambassadors of the University, guided by the core values of the University which are; loyalty, respect, integrity and commitment. He acknowledged the sponsors of the awards for their financial support, saying, that the University would not have been able to increase the number of awards without them.

According to Prof. Ebenezer Owusu, 13 new sponsors have added to the list of sponsors for this year’s event; Ghana Alumni of the Russian University of People’s Friendship (RUND), Peruvian Embassy, Embassy of Spain, Ghana Association of Hispanists (GAH), African Foundation for Human Advancement (NGO), Union of Africa Population Studies, Stereda Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Prof. Florence Dolphyne and Family, Dr. Ken Kwaku, Dr. William Bonsu, Captain J. K. Nyamekye and Prof. Lade Wosornu. He challenged other corporate bodies and individuals to emulate their example.

Dr. Ebenezer Kobbie Aryee and Mr. Simon Yeboah of the College of Health Sciences received the highest number of awards for the night with both sweeping four awards each.

Mr. Raymond Agyare was presented the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for the Best Graduating Student admitted under the University of Ghana’s Policy for Less-Endowed Schools. Mr. Gershon Modzaka received the University of Ghana Award for best Graduating Male Sports Personality with Abena Pukua Oti-Akenteng receiving the Best Graduating Female Sports Personality award. The Vice-Chancellor’s Award for the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation for the Humanities and Sciences went to Dr. Olutobi Adekunle Sanuade and Dr. Richard Minkah respectively.

Delivering the remarks on behalf of sponsors, the Chief Executive Officer of Salt and Light Ministries, Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee, applauded the awardees for their outstanding achievement saying it was a pleasure to share in their joy. She was confident that all awardees will excel in their various roles and contribute to the growth of the society, nation and the world at large. She challenged them to strive for excellence in all their endeavours. Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee expressed appreciation to all sponsors and called on other corporate bodies and individuals to come on board.
